A Ton of Anime Updates Landed Over the Holidays

The Yuletide season provide a wealth of activities much better than scanning the latest news: opening presents, indulging in holiday treats, and using patience techniques to avoid snapping at relatives. It is wished you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy news items surfaced over the break, and just in case you overlooked a few, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Without a doubt the most shocking announcement, the notorious troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt more episodes. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they could have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which could be taken as a good sign. Yet, the main art for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they are probably trolling the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now the community is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been airing for years, and season 6 was another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio famous for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two

Immediately following the release of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has yet to be revealed.
