'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Missing Young People Desperately Seek Answers After Ski Resort Blaze
The loved ones of teenagers missing after a tragic fire at a venue in a Switzerland's winter destination are facing an painful wait for answers and requesting clues about their loved ones publicly.
The inferno ripped through the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of the first day of the year. Verified footage reveal the roof structure being engulfed in flames as bottles with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Officials have stated that it could take an extended period to formally name the victims of the tragedy, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and injured another over a hundred. Authorities stated on Friday that the majority of the injured have been accounted for, with work still underway to locate the other six.
In the waiting period, families and friends have been using social media to plead for any news about their loved ones who were at the bar that fateful night.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Unaccounted For
The location of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are currently unknown, according to an appeal from his family.
The resident of a town near Lausanne, explained to a local newspaper that she had returned to the city to see if he was in the medical facility, while his father did the equivalent search in Bern, but could not find him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, a nightmare. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in critical condition. Words cannot describe it," she stated.
She added that some of his friends had been found with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they endured a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's government has said that a number of of its nationals have not been located.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old junior golfer, originally from Italy but now living in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has stated that he is dead, without directly referencing the tragedy, paying tribute to a "talented young man who carried with him dedication and authentic values."
His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.
Further Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is likewise among the missing. His parent explained that he had been on holiday but had gone out with a group and ended up at the venue.
"A close friend said they fled after the fire broke out and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he couldn't see him anymore," she said, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
